Embodiment Construction

[0024] The following detailed description is exemplary in nature and is not intended to limit the scope, applicability, or configuration of the invention in any way. Rather, the following description provides some practical illustrations for implementing examples of the invention. Examples of construction, materials, dimensions, and manufacturing processes are provided for selected elements, and all other elements known to those of ordinary skill in the field of the invention are employed. Those skilled in the art will recognize that many of the examples shown have various suitable alternatives.

[0025] Optical sensors are used in a variety of applications, including monitoring industrial processes. Optical sensors can be implemented as portable, hand-held devices for periodic analysis of optical properties of fluids in industrial processes. Alternatively, optical sensors can be installed in-line to continuously analyze the optical properties of fluids in industrial process...

Abstract

An optical sensor may include a plurality of optical emitters configured to direct light into a fluid sample via an optical path. Light from the emitter can be caused to fluoresce from and / or be scattered by the sample. The scattered and fluorescent light may be received by an optical detector in the sensor via an optical path and used to determine at least one characteristic of the fluid sample. A second optical detector can provide a reference measurement of the amount of light emitted to the sample. In one example, the optical detector can simultaneously detect scattered light and fluorescent light. In another example, light is alternately emitted and detected. The sensor may be part of a system that includes one or more controllers configured to control the emission and detection of light into and out of the fluid sample. A controller may use the detected light to determine at least one characteristic of the fluid sample.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to optical measurement devices, and more particularly, to fluorometers for monitoring the concentration of one or more substances in a sample. Background technique [0002] In cleaning and antimicrobial operations, commercial users (eg, restaurants, hotels, food and beverage plants, grocery stores, etc.) rely on the concentration of the cleaning or antimicrobial product for the product to work effectively. If a cleaning or antimicrobial product does not work effectively (for example, due to concentration issues), this may result in perceived lower product quality by commercial users. End consumers may also perceive commercial providers of these products as providing poor quality service. Additionally, commercial users may be investigated and / or sanctioned by government regulatory and health agencies. Accordingly, there is a need for a system that can monitor properties of a fluid solution (eg, determine whether the conc...
