Abstract

Recovery of petroleum from subterranean formulations by injection of an aqueous solution comprising a polyethylene oxide nonionic surfactant and a disulfonated anionic surfactant.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method of recovering petroleum from a formation by injecting an aqueous solution of nonionic and anionic surfactants into the formation. Background technique [0002] In subsurface oil recovery there are challenges in extracting as much oil as possible from the formation. Subterranean oil recovery methods typically involve injecting an aqueous phase into the formation to displace oil remaining after primary oil recovery operations, a process commonly referred to as waterflooding. Oil recovery by water infusion can be low if only water is used, so an aqueous system with improved recovery performance is desired. Prior art references teach that water containing surfactants can be injected into a formation to increase displacement of residual oil in the formation and to increase overall recovery of oil from the formation. However, due in part to the high temperatures and high salt concentrations in the formation, challe...
