The detection device comprises a high-frequency low-voltage steep pulse generation module, a high-speed acquisition module and an upper computer with built-in analysis software, wherein the high-frequency low-voltage steep pulse generation module is used for generating nanosecond steep pulses and injecting the steep pulse signals to a detected electromagnetic voltage transformer winding; the high-speed acquisition module is used for acquiring characteristic waveforms after passing through the detected electromagnetic voltage transformer winding and containing winding short circuit fault, and after pre-processing and storage are carried out, the characteristic waveforms are transmitted to the upper computer; and the upper computer adopts a repetitive pulse method to analyze and process the received characteristic waveforms, and thus, the short circuit fault characteristics of the detected electromagnetic voltage transformer winding can be obtained.
