Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for diagnosing an inflammatory disease and a diagnostic kit used in the method. The diagnostic method of the present invention involves the use of a novel tryptophan metabolite, 5-methoxytryptophan (5-MTP), as a diagnostic marker for inflammatory responses. The present invention particularly provides a highly specific competitive immunoenzyme method for diagnosing the occurrence and severity of inflammatory diseases including sepsis and systemic lupus erythematosus by measuring the concentration of 5‑MTP in human serum.
