[0014]Basic principle of current guiding DAC

[0015]DAC usually generates quantification (discrete steps) analog output in response to digital input code (eg, binary digital input code). The current guiding DAC is typically operated by converting a digital input signal (e.g., X-bit digital input signal) to a current as analog representation representing the digital input signal. One exemplary manner to provide a current output representing a digital input signal is an array of current guiding the DAC unit by providing a bit or portion of a digital signal as a drive code and assigned to an appropriate size. Each current guide DAC unit provides an appropriate weighting current based on the respective drive code to the unit.

[0016]In binary weighted DAC, one unit can be provided to each bit of the digital input signal of the DAC, where each unit provides binary weighting current output based on the corresponding bits of the digital input signal to the DAC. In some other architectures, a ...

Abstract

The present disclosure provides random quad switching. Reducing distortion in digital-to-analog converters is a challenge for circuit designers. For current-steering digital-to-analog converters (DACs), a quaternary switching scheme has been used to remove code-dependent glitches that would otherwise exist in a two-switching scheme. However, due to various impairments in the circuit, such as mismatches in transistors, some code-dependent distortions still exist even when the quad switching scheme is implemented. To address this issue, the quaternary switching scheme can be randomized to improve dynamic linearity while relaxing drive circuit design and power constraints. Advantageously, the randomization reduces the code dependence of the distortion and makes the distortion look more like noise at the output of the DAC.

Description

Technical field[0001]The present invention relates to the field of integrated circuits, and more particularly to a random quadruple switching for a current guide number die converter. Background technique[0002]Real world analog signals such as temperature, pressure, sound or images are regularly converted to digital representations that can be easily processed in modern digital systems. In many systems, the digital information must be converted back to the simulation form to perform some real-world functions. The circuit that performs this step is a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that outputs it for driving various devices. Speaker, video display, motor, mechanical servo, radio frequency (RF) transmitter and temperature control are only several examples. DAC is usually incorporated into a digital system, in which the real world signal is digitized by analog-to-digital converter (ADC), processed, and then converted back to the analog form by DAC.[0003]Today, digital circuit applica...
