Embodiment Construction
[0047] Aspects of the disclosed embodiments relate to a housing structure or packaging for an antenna assembly of a base station in a wireless communication system. In one embodiment, the surface shape of the packaging device, also referred to herein as a radome structure or radome assembly, is substantially planar or flat. This is in contrast to the spherical or curved shape of typical radome structures. Aspects of the disclosed embodiments advantageously allow expansion of the plastic radome of the packaged device relative to the heat sink by using a frame assembly that compresses a seal between the plastic radome member and the thermally conductive heat sink. By accommodating horizontal movement due to thermal expansion, the surface shape of the plastic radome member and the integrity of the mechanical containment structure are not compromised.
