Abstract

Disclosed herein is a system for a dual-band transceiver that reuses a low-frequency transmitter to drive a local oscillator (LO) for a high-frequency circuit. Eliminates the need for LO arrays requiring the use of high frequency and high power. The low-band output is modified to be used as the LO drive for the high-band transceiver. Using a carrier recovery loop, the system is operable to operate in two frequency bands simultaneously. The resulting technical solution eliminates the design of high-performance LO circuits used in the high-band of mmW dual-band systems. This significantly reduces the overall complexity of the system. In addition, the architecture of the present invention reduces the design complexity and overall cost of implementing a dual-band circuit.

Description

technical field [0001] Embodiments of the invention generally relate to the field of wireless transceivers. More specifically, embodiments of the present invention relate to dual-band microwave / millimeter wave (mmW) transceivers. Background technique [0002] In dual-band systems, such as those including Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) typically operating between 27.5 and 31.3GHz and E-band mode typically operating between 71 and 86GHz, the communication range is limited to the high frequency band (eg, E-band) linearity (eg, transmit power). This is because it is difficult to provide sufficient linear power at high frequencies, and the path loss is relatively high. In addition, the local oscillator (LO) frequency is also high and requires high LO power to drive the E-band mixer. As a result, the LO lineup design is like implementing another high power / frequency transmitter, which is very expensive. [0003] In contrast to LO array designs, it is relatively e...
