A bidirectional pneumatic impact wrench has a pneumatic motor and an air control valve. The pneumatic motor has a forward air inlet and a reverse air inlet. The air control valve directs compressed air selectively into either the forward air inlet or the reverse air inlet to change the direction of rotation of the pneumatic motor and includes a rotatable shaft. The shaft has an exterior surface and a spiral forward air groove and reverse air groove that are symmetrically defined in the exterior surface to direct the compressed air efficiently. The air control valve is simple to fabricate and directs the compressed air efficiently into the pneumatic motor to improve power and efficiency of the pneumatic motor.

Broadcast messaging in peer to peer overlay network

Broadcast messages are efficiently directed to nodes of an overlay network. Broadcast messages include an End ID parameter specifying the range of key values for nodes that should receive the broadcast message. Each node of an overlay network maintains a list of finger nodes and their respective key values. Upon receiving a broadcast message, a node assigns a finger node a new End ID value based upon the End ID value of the broadcast message or the key value of an adjacent finger node. The node compares a finger node's new End ID value with the finger node's key value to determine whether to forward the broadcast message to that finger node. A broadcast message forwarded to a finger node includes an End ID parameter equal to the new End ID value determined for the finger node. Nodes can aggregate response messages from its finger nodes.

Hybrid projector LED low beam headlamp

The optics system is a lamp assembly which produces the desired beam pattern by using a reflector, a lens, a retainer lens, and an LED as a light source. The lamp assembly has three main components (the reflector, the lens, and the retainer lens) that maintain proper alignment between the light source and the reflector, the lens, and the retainer lens. The optical system collects substantially 100% of the light from the light source while effectively shaping the beam pattern using both cylindrical and revolved reflector elements. The lens has a saddle-shape which is used with the surface of a revolution to eliminate any “dogbone” light pattern shape. The use of a reflective element forms the foreground of the beam pattern.

An optical system with an LED light source utilizes a base with an inverted conical shape to conduct light to a phosphor layer. The phosphor layer emits light from both upper and lower surfaces. The base and a substantially mirror image cap element facilitate efficient extraction of the phosphor-generated light from the optical system so that the output of the system is omni-directional light suitable for common lighting applications. The system is very efficient in that nearly all the light generated by the LED is transmitted to the phosphor layer, and nearly all the light emitted from the phosphor layer is output from the system.

Tri-flow head assembly

A head assembly for presenting a three layer material flow includes primary and secondary housings for presenting a first interior layer and a second intermediate layer of the three layer flow. A downstream melt distributor melds the first and second material layers into a combined material flow for deposit of a third exterior layer about the combined flow. The melt distributor includes a sinuous channel for directing the material of the outer layer into points of discharge about the combined material flow. A scroll-like distributor communicates with the discharge points for directing the third material into an annular path about the combined flow, and a subsequent melding of the third material with the combined flow. The resulting three layer flow is directed to a downstream die assembly.

Light guides are formed above each light receiving element. These light guides are made of a high refractive index material, and surrounded by a material of lower refractive index. The light guides are each made up of a light introduction region leading with a constant width from a light entrance surface, and a tapered reduced region leading from the light introduction region to a light exit surface. The light introduction region totally reflects the incident light toward the reduced region. The reduced region, owing to its tapered shape, surely directs the light onto a light receiving element, and prevents the light from entering charge transfer paths around the light receiving element.

Saw deflection shield

An air deflection system and method which is specifically designed for use with reciprocating saws of the type widely used for construction projects. Such reciprocating saws are known to produce so much air-borne particulate matter that they can be a hazard to the eyes, head and respiratory system of the user. The air-borne debris also makes it difficult for the user to see the work being cut. The design provides a slip-on cover for air exit ports which has the effect of deflecting air and hence the particulate matter in a direction away from the head of the user. The resulting effect is a safer and more efficient sawing operation which is accomplished with a low-cost and easy to install deflection shield.
