Abstract

The invention provides a motor and a compressor, which can improve the efficiency and demagnetization endurance of the motor without increasing the manufacturing cost. The motor includes: a stator; arotor opposed to the stator with a gap therebetween; a permanent magnet embedded in the rotor to form a predetermined magnetic pole. Recesses are formed in the q-axis on the outer peripheral surface of the rotor. The shortest gap length among the gap lengths between the stator and the rotor is set as a first gap length g1. A second gap length g2 is defined as the gap length at the intersection point of the recesses and a straight line passing through the rotation center of the rotor and the end of the permanent magnet on the outer peripheral side of the rotor and on the d-axis side among the gap lengths.
