Problems solved by technology

Conventional wireless systems usually fix or limit the amount of radio resources used for CSI and do not effectively adapt the CSI resource configuration based on current channel conditions, causing unnecessary restrictions on the number of UEs that can be served by one access node and / or or lower data rate

Embodiment Construction

[0037] figure 1 A flowchart illustrating an exemplary embodiment of updating channel state information (CSI) resource configurations based on a differentiated channel condition approximation (DCCA) is depicted. A set of initial system settings 102 is used to establish a wireless link between an access node and one or more user equipment (UE) served by the access node (AN). The term "wireless link" as used herein generally refers to a two-way radio frequency communication link between two transceivers or transmitter-receivers through which information can be exchanged. For example, when a user equipment connects to an access node and starts exchanging information, a wireless link is formed between the access node and the user equipment. The terms "channel" and "wireless channel" herein refer to the path along a wireless link that transmitted and / or received wireless signals travel. "System settings" or "settings" refer to values related to the physical layer of a wireless l...

Abstract

An improved apparatus and method for efficiently allocating channel state information (CSI) resources in a wireless communication system. The apparatus includes a processing node for receiving one or more channel characteristics, wherein the one or more channel characteristics are associated with a radio channel corresponding to a radio link connecting the access node and the user equipment. The processing node is configured to determine one or more differentiated channel conditions based on the received one or more channel characteristics, and determine a desired channel state information (CSI) resource configuration based on the one or more differentiated channel conditions; and based on the expected CSI resource configuration allocating a desired CSI resource configuration; and adjusting a current CSI resource configuration associated with the wireless channel based on the determined desired CSI resource configuration.

Description

technical field [0001] Aspects of the present disclosure relate generally to mobile communication systems and, more specifically, to radio resource usage. Background technique [0002] Scheduling strategies used in modern wireless communication systems rely on information about channel conditions to efficiently schedule wireless resources. An access node such as a base station may obtain channel state information (channel state information, CSI) from a CSI report and / or a sounding reference signal (sounding reference signal, SRS) sent by a user equipment (user equipment, UE). CSI allows access nodes to adapt transmission strategies based on the current conditions of each wireless channel. The adaptation process is crucial to achieve reliable communication at high data rates in multi-antenna wireless communication systems. [0003] In a frequency division duplex (FDD) system such as a long term evolution (long term evolution, LTE) cellular system, CSI is usually provided by...
