Problems solved by technology

Since this DCI is only sent when no other downlink traffic is in progress, this solution is only partially effective
Furthermore, the solution in [R1-155803] is less efficient in terms of overall cell capacity because additional DCI messages consume downlink resources that are no longer available to other NB-IoT devices

Embodiment Construction

[0033] In the following, a procedure to solve the above problems will be proposed to reduce the power consumption of NB-IoT devices in good coverage in idle mode. In particular, the following procedures are introduced:

[0034] -The process of statically configuring paging for each coverage level in NB-IoT RAN

[0035] - Division of paging occasions by coverage class using system information.

[0036] - Process for initial selection of paging coverage class

[0037] - The UE selects its coverage level by comparing the NRSRP threshold in the system information.

[0038] - The process of changing the coverage level of UE side paging

[0039] - When the signal condition changes, the UE may select other coverage levels for paging.

[0040] - The network may request the UE to report changes in its paging coverage level.

[0041] - The process of network paging devices

[0042] - NB-IoT RAN can efficiently page UEs based on the latest known coverage levels stored in the core n...

Abstract

The invention discloses a method for optimizing power consumption for Narrowband Internet of Things devices, UEs, in idle mode using a coverage class specific paging configuration. The object of the invention to find a method that reduces power consumption of NB-IoT devices in good signal coverage within idle mode will be solved by a method for optimizing power consumption for Narrowband Internetof Things devices, UEs, in idle mode using a coverage class specific paging configuration, wherein carriers for paging are partitioned by coverage class, whereas the coverage class specific paging configuration, broadcasted by a system information exchanged between the base station and the UE, is extended by an additional NRSRP rsrp-ThresholdPcch threshold, whereas the UE selects one carrier for paging with a Narrowband Reference signal received power (NRSRP) smaller than the rsrp-ThresholdPcch threshold or if a UE is not reachable the eNodeB expands a paging area for the considered UE stepwise into other paging coverage classes in order to reach the UE.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority from European Patent Application No. 19179725.7, filed 12 June 2019, entitled "Specific Paging to extend battery life for NB-IoT devices", priority of European patent application number 19153201.9. The entire contents of the aforementioned patent applications are hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to extending battery life for NB-IoT devices through coverage class specific paging. Background technique [0004] Narrowband Internet-of-Thing (NB-IoT) is a recently approved 3GPP standard for the radio interface between a base station (eNodeB) and a user equipment (UE). It can be deployed in the reallocated GSM spectrum in a stand-alone manner. In addition, it can share spectrum resources with FD-LTE cells within the LTE frequency band and within the LTE guard band. The goals of the standard are energy-efficient transmission of infreq...
