Problems solved by technology

Of course, this leads to an incorrect display of the image, which is clearly discernible to the viewer
Since pictures with higher time reference codes are stored consecutively in a frame memory, the display order in new picture groups can be continuously disturbed
This results in undesired and extremely annoying image "jumping"

Embodiment Construction

[0024] The present invention will be described in more detail by taking the example of a video image decoding unit of a DVD playback device. In FIG. 1, a header of a sequence of video pictures is indicated by reference symbol SH. I0 represents the data of the first video image. The latter (I0) is an I picture. P15 represents the data of the 16th video image. The latter (P15) is a P picture. Thus, B13 and B14 represent the video data of the 14th and 15th video images. The latter (B13 and B14) are both B pictures. P16 represents the 17th video image. The latter (P16) is thus a P-picture. The lower part of Fig. 1 shows sectors denoted by reference symbols VPi to VPj. All sectors have the same length of 2048 bytes. Therefore, the first video image I0 occupies a larger number of sectors. Video picture P16 occupies the last three sectors VPj-2 to VPj shown. The Figure 1 header GOPH is shown in more detail in Figure 2 . The start code of the group of pictures is denoted by...

Abstract

A method for regenerating the original data of a digitally coded video film is described, in which a specific picture type of a number of picture types (I, B, P) has been allocated to each of the individual pictures during coding and the coding order (DEO) does not correspond, at least in part, to the display order (DIO). This method provides for an independent time base to be used in order to recover the display order, which time base is obtained from internal information items in the decoder, the information items having been stored during the preceding decoding of a number of pictures. This method has the advantage that even with the omission of a header of a Group of Pictures (GOPH), the correct display order can still be achieved, even if the otherwise customary temporal reference codes in the bit stream signal an incorrect display order. An apparatus for carrying out the method is furthermore proposed.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for restoring the original data of a digitally coded telefilm and a device for carrying out the method. Background technique [0002] The invention is based on a method for restoring the original data of digitally coded telefilms of the usual type, in which during encoding each image has been assigned a specific one of several image types and the encoding order does not at least partly correspond to the display order . Devices of this type have become known recently, for example, due to commercially available DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) playback devices. These devices are designed according to the so-called DVD standard (version 1.0). In this standard, reference is made to the so-called MPEG standards MPEG1 and MPEG2 for telecine playback. The MPEG2 standard is also known under the standard ISO / IEC 13818:1994 "Information technology - Generic coding of moving pictures and associated audio". The MPEG1 standard is a...
