Embodiment Construction

[0020] The methods and devices described herein produce images that facilitate providing the user with additional information about the dynamics and distribution of contrast agents as a function of time than can be seen in known ultrasound imaging applications and devices. Specifically, the methods and apparatus described herein collapse specific aspects of dynamic contrast flow through an organ of interest into a single parametric image for easier viewing and documentation. In one embodiment, the resulting parametric image is superimposed on the conventional ultrasound image. In the exemplary embodiment, the image of the parameter displayed in color is superimposed on the conventional ultrasound image in gray scale. In another embodiment, the images of more than one parameter are displayed together with the conventional images, either in different colors, or side by side.

Abstract

A method of generating a time intensity curve includes receiving data regarding a scan of a patient injected with a contrast agent, generating a series of contrast images based upon the received data, and generating at least one parametric image based upon at least two contrast images.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to ultrasound imaging systems and methods, and more particularly, to methods and devices for analyzing time-intensity curves of contrast agents. Ultrasound contrast agents have been developed over the years primarily to facilitate ultrasound imaging of blood flow, which typically has very little ultrasound backscatter signal. Ultrasound contrast agents and microbubbles designed to mimic the dynamics of red blood cells are used to allow clinicians to more easily image blood flow dynamics without the use of traditional Doppler used in coloflow imaging and pulsed Doppler deal with. Background technique [0002] Generally, in a typical study of ultrasound contrast agents, the patient is injected with a bolus (short burst), or given a continuous infusion (long, slow injection) of ultrasound contrast agent. In the case of a bolus injection, the region is imaged serially, and the hemodynamic fu...
