[0041] Figure 1A A low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp is shown, comprising a glass discharge vessel with a tubular portion 11 about a longitudinal axis 2 . The discharge tube 10 transmits radiation generated by the discharge tube 10 and is provided with first and second end portions 12a, 12b, respectively. In this example, the length L of the tubular portion 11 dv It is 120cm, inner diameter D in About 14mm. The discharge vessel 10 surrounds, in a gas-tight manner, a discharge space 13 comprising a filling of mercury and an inert gas mixture, the inert gas comprising argon. exist Figure 1A In an example, the side of the tubular portion 11 facing the discharge space 13 is provided with a protective layer 17 . In a fluorescent discharge lamp, the side of the tubular part 11 facing the discharge space 13 is also coated with a fluorescent layer 16, comprising a fluorescent material that converts ultraviolet (UV) light produced by the retreat of activated mercury into (...

Abstract

Low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp has aa radiation-transmitting discharge vessel (10) enclosing, in a gastight manner, a discharge space (13) provided with a filling of mercury and a rare gas. The discharge vessel (10) has a discharge means (20a) for maintaining a discharge in the discharge space (13). Container (3) comprising mercury or an amalgam (4) is arranged in the discharge vessel (10). The container (3) is provided with an opening (24). The container (3) is manufactured from a glass with a transmission of less than 0.4 in the wavelength range from 0.8 to 1.5 m. Preferably, the transmission of the glass is less than 0.25 in the wavelength range from 1.0 to 1.2 m. Preferably, the glass comprises at least 2 % by weight Fe2O3. Preferably, the container (3) is provided in an exhaust tube (9) in an end portion (12a) of the discharg vessel (10).

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp. [0002] The invention also relates to a container containing mercury or amalgam for use in a low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp. Background technique [0003] In mercury vapor discharge lamps, mercury is the main element for the (efficient) generation of ultraviolet UV light. Phosphor layers containing fluorescent materials can be located on the inner wall of the discharge vessel to convert UV to other wavelengths, e.g. UV-B and UV-A for tanning (solar panel lamps), or visible radiation for general lighting . Such discharge lamps are therefore called fluorescent lamps. Alternatively, the generated ultraviolet light can be used to make germicidal lamps (UV-C). The discharge tube of a low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp is generally round, including two types: elongated and small. Generally, the structure of the tubular discharge tube of a compact fluorescent lamp in...
