[0022] FIG. 4 is a schematic circuit diagram of a backlight unit including a feedback circuit according to the present invention. In FIG. 4 , the backlight unit 100 includes an array unit 65 including an input terminal 52 , a first output terminal 56 , and an array 60 between the input terminal 52 and the first output terminal 56 . Array 60 includes a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) 62 that are driven by power applied to input terminal 52 .

[0023] Array 60 may include a plurality of LEDs 62 connected in series with each other. For example, array 60 may be comprised of red, green and blue LEDs, or a succession of red, green, blue, green and red LEDs. In addition, the backlight unit 100 may include a printed circuit board (PCB) (not shown) under the array 60 .

[0024] A drive signal such as a voltage or current may be applied through the input terminal 52 . The driving voltage "Vin" has a uniform width within a range that does not substantially damage the LED 62 ...

Abstract

The invention relates to a backlight unit and driving method. The backlight unit includes: an array unit, wherein the array unit comprises an input terminal, a first output terminal and an array coupled to the input terminal and coupled to the first output terminal, the array including a plurality of light emitting diodes; a switching unit coupled to the input terminal and coupled to the array; and a comparison unit coupled to the first output terminal and coupled to a control unit and operable to compare a reference current with an output current of the first output terminal; wherein the control unit controls the switching unit.

Description

technical field [0001] The present application relates to a backlight unit and a method of driving the same, and more particularly, to a backlight unit including a light emitting diode (LED) and a feedback circuit and a method of driving the same. Background technique [0002] Flat panel display (FPD) devices having relatively light weight, thin profile, and low power consumption characteristics are being developed and generally used as replacements for cathode ray tube (CRT) devices. In general, display devices may be classified according to their self-luminous ability, and may include light-emitting type display devices and non-light-emitting type display devices. Emissive display devices display images by utilizing their self-luminous ability, while non-emissive display devices require a light source because they do not emit light themselves. For example, plasma display panel (PDP) devices, field emission display (FED) devices, and electroluminescence display (ELD) devic...
