[0020] Now, a vertical external cavity surface emitting laser (VECSEL) according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention will be more fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
[0021] Fig. 2 is a schematic cross-sectional view of an end pump VECSEL according to an embodiment of the present invention. Referring to FIG. 2 , the end-pumped VECSEL includes a heat sink 61 , a laser chip 50 , a double frequency generator (SHG) crystal 63 and an out-of-plane cavity 67 . The heat sink 61 transmits an externally emitted pump beam of a predetermined wavelength (for example, 808 nm) while dissipating heat generated by the laser chip 50 . In order to have these functions, the radiator 61 can be made of materials with excellent heat dissipation performance and light transmission performance to the pump beam, such as diamond, silicon carbide (SiC), sapphire, AlN, GaN or Al 2 o 3 .
