Embodiment 1
[0058] In this example, permethan was flaked, resulting in stable permethion flakes, which could be dissolved or dispersed in solvents for use according to standard procedures. A mixture was formed containing 92% by weight of technical grade perfenfos and 8% by weight of Maltrin M-100 (maltodextrin). This mixture was added to a mixer with a variable speed screw feeder. The mixture was dropped on a conveyor belt which passed through a heating chamber, thereby heating the mixture to about 90° C. to melt the permethrin under nitrogen. The conveyor belt then passes through a cooling chamber where the permethrin mixture cools and solidifies. The cooling chamber can cool the permethrin mixture by direct dry cold air or by direct flow of oxygen-free air. The conveyor belt may have a series of notches or grooves to create frangible points or lines to help create a uniform particle size.
[0059] The cooled and solidified permethine mixture is removed from the conveyor belt and tran...
Embodiment 2
[0060] The procedure of Example 1 was repeated using 92.0 wt% technical grade perfenfos, silica (trade name HI-SIL233) and 1.0 wt% lemon oil 4136 (masking agent). The resulting product is stable and easily dissolved or distributed, and can be used in agricultural fields.
