Embodiment Construction

[0037] Feedstocks containing oxygenates can be converted to light olefins in a catalytic reaction and the heavy hydrocarbons formed during this process (e.g. C 4 +hydrocarbons) to increase the light olefins produced or obtained therefrom (e.g. C 2 and C 3 olefins). According to a preferred embodiment, the feedstock containing methanol is converted to form dimethyl ether (DME), which is then reacted to form a product mixture comprising light olefins and heavy olefins, at least a portion of the heavy olefins being subsequently converted to form additional light olefin products .

[0038] The Figure schematically illustrates an integrated system, generally indicated by reference numeral 20, for processing an oxygenate-containing feedstock to olefins, especially light olefins, according to one embodiment.

[0039] More particularly, the oxygenate-containing feedstock is introduced via line 22 into an oxygenate conversion reaction system 24, wherein the oxygenate-containing feed...

Abstract

Processing schemes and arrangements for the production of olefins and, more particularly, for the production of light olefins from an oxygenate-containing feedstock are provided. Such processing schemes and arrangements offer improved energy utilization, additional light olefin products, and provide efficient uses for product water.

Description

Background of the invention [0001] The present invention generally relates to the conversion of oxygenates to olefins, particularly to light olefins, by an integrated process. [0002] A major segment of the world's petrochemical industry involves the production of light olefinic materials and their subsequent use in the production of a variety of important chemical products. These productions and uses of light olefin materials may involve a variety of well-known chemical reactions including, for example, polymerization, oligomerization, and alkylation. Light olefins generally include ethylene, propylene, and mixtures thereof. These light olefins are the main building blocks used in the modern petrochemical and chemical industries. The main source of light olefins in refining today is steam cracking of petroleum feeds. For a variety of reasons, including geographic, economic, policy, and shrinking supply concerns, the art has long sought resources other than petroleum to me...
