A method and an apparatus for providing route optimisation

A routing and optimizer technology, applied in electrical components, wireless communication, network data management, etc., can solve the problem that the mobile node cannot perform the end node binding registration, the mobile node cannot update the peer binding, and the mobile node cannot establish trust. relationship and other issues, to achieve the effect of reduced packet propagation delay, less congestion, and less work.

Problems solved by technology

For example, it is impossible for a mobile node to perform peer binding update; a mobile node cannot perform binding registration to a peer node, and intermediate nodes in the network should perform route optimization procedures on behalf of the mobile node; and in PMIPv6, due to reachability The test is not applicable, therefore, the peer node cannot establish a trust relationship with the mobile node

Embodiment Construction

[0042] An improved scheme for routing optimization in communication networks will now be described, first within the context of a simple network architecture involving a single anchor (or layer of anchors) and connected access points, and then in the context of multiple layers of anchors and In-context description of layered network architecture with multiple access point layers.

[0043] figure 1 An overview of a method for route optimization 100 between a first Mobile Node (MN) 105 and a second MN 110 according to a first embodiment of the invention is shown. A mobile node is preferably an IPv6 host and can be a mobile phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a wireless enabled laptop, etc. or any similar device or user equipment. The MNs 105, 110 roam within the same administrative domain 115 and have the same LMA 120 serving them. The management domain can also be referred to as Local Mobility Management (LMM), and is preferably a PMIP domain. If the first MN 105 exch...

Abstract

A mechanism for initiating route optimisation (100) in an administrative domain (115). The mechanism is actualized when traffic is exchanged between at least a first mobile node (105) and a second mobile node (110), said traffic taking place over at least one Local Mobility Anchor (LMA) (120) within said administrative domain (115). The traffic exchange between said first and second mobile nodes within the administrative domain is detected followed by a decision to initiate route optimisation for the traffic. Thereafter an optimized route for the traffic, in which the traffic is routed directly between a first (125) and a second (130) mobile access gateway (MAG) serving the first and the second mobile nodes, respectively, is created. A route optimisation update is then sent directly or indirectly, to any uninformed mobile access gateway (MAG), after which the traffic is routed directly between the first and the second MAG. This method for route optimization may be applied in a Proxy Mobile IP (PMIP) context.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to methods and devices for implementing route optimization in telecommunication networks. Background technique [0002] The 3GPP group has specified a protocol called GPRS Tunneling Protocol (GTP) in TS 29.060 Release 7. GTP aims to provide mechanisms for mobility management of packet data traffic associated with mobile terminals. More specifically, GTP is implemented between the IP anchor point realized by the GRPS Gateway Support Node (GGSN) and the IP access point realized by the Serving Gateway Support Node (SGSN), wherein both GGSN and SGSN are GPRS core network node. The main role of the anchor point is to assign IP addresses to mobile terminals (from a fixed address pool). For the duration of the session, an IP address is assigned to the mobile terminal. The access point is responsible for registering the current location of the mobile terminal with the anchor node to allow the anchor node to tunnel packets addr...
