The present invention relates to a method for setting a startup picture of a STB (Set Top Box), the method comprises the following steps of: S1, detecting whether a mobile storage device is connected with the STB, if yes, continuing to perform a step of S2, otherwise, continuing to perform a step of S5; S2, detecting whether a preset picture is in the mobile storage device, if yes, continuing to perform a step of S3, otherwise, continuing to perform the step of S5; S3, reading the preset picture from the mobile storage device, and processing size of the picture into the size supported by the STB; S4, taking the processed preset picture as the startup picture to store into a storage module of the STB; and S5, displaying the startup picture stored in the storage module of the STB. In addition, the present invention also provides a system for setting the startup picture of the STB.
