Abstract

The invention provides a liquid crystal display device of low cost and high yield, wherein the visual angle is controllable. The device comprises a substrate (8) formed with a pixel electrode (15) and a common electrode (14), an opposition substrate (7) formed with a colored layer corresponding to the pixel electrode, a shading layer (9) formed on the boundary of two adjacent colored layers and liquid crystal arranged between the substrate and the opposition substrate. The volume resistivity of the shading layer is smaller than 108 omege*cm. When visual angle control signals are provided to the shading layer, electric fields vertical to the surface of the substrate (8) are formed between the shading layer (9) and the pixel electrode (15) and between the shading layer (9) and the common electrode (14). Therefore, the contrast is lowered when viewed inclinedly so as to control the visual angle.
