Abstract

The present invention regards a probe for deep brain stimulation (DBS), with high overall impedance, but low overall resistance. This is achieved since the probe comprises a structure comprising at least two interconnected spirals, wherein said two spirals have different direction of rotation. A system for deep brain stimulation comprising the probe, a power source and an electrode is also disclosed.

Description

Technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a probe for deep brain stimulation (DBS). More specifically, the present invention relates to a probe that is applicable even under the influence of a strong external magnetic field. Background technique [0002] In the field of neurotechnology, deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a surgical treatment that involves implanting a medical device called a deep brain stimulator that sends electrical pulses to specific parts of the brain. DBS in certain areas of the brain has provided significant effects on diseases that are refractory to other methods such as chronic pain, Parkinson's disease, tremor, and dystonia. Although DBS has a long history, its underlying principles and mechanisms are still unclear. DBS directly changes brain activity in a controlled manner. Unlike the destruction technique, its effect is reversible. In addition, DBS is one of the very few neurosurgery methods that allow participants to study without their...
