Each armored steel wire on the umbilical cable as tensile testing sample has one end passing through one through hole in the clamp plate, the end head of the armored steel wire extending out of the through hole is subjected to upsetting operation, the clamp plates are moved to the end head of the armored steel wire, the armored steel wire is tightened toward the cable core periphery by use of a tightening belt to make the cable core located in the central hole of the clamp plates, the closed clamp plates are inserted into the concave edge of the fixing sleeves, the two half fixing sleeves are fixed integrally by a connection plate and a bolt, and a tension machine is started up to carry out tensile testing on the umbilical cable.
