Problems solved by technology

[0003] However, the structure of the electric power steering device in JP'654 does not allow the control unit to be separated from the motor without removing the screws used for the electrical connection between the motor and the control unit
Also, in order to remove the screws, the drive unit must be removed from the steering column attached to the steering wheel
In other words, such a structure cannot easily remove the control unit without first removing the drive unit from the steering column

Embodiment approach 1

[0039] based on Figures 1 to 14B Details about the drive unit 1 used in the first embodiment of the present application are discussed.

[0040] The drive unit 1 is applied to an electric power steering device (ie, "EPS" hereinafter). The drive unit 1 includes a motor 2 and a control unit 3 .

[0041] refer to figure 1 , describing details about the electrical structure of the EPS. The drive unit 1 generates rotational torque and applies the torque to a steering column 6 serving as a rotational axis of a steering wheel 5 of the vehicle through a gear 7 to assist a steering operation using the steering wheel 5 . When the driver operates the steering wheel 5 , the resulting steering torque of the steering column 6 is detected by the torque sensor 8 . In addition, the speed of the vehicle is obtained from the Control Area Network (CAN). The steering torque detected by the torque sensor 8 and the speed of the vehicle provided by the CAN are used to determine the necessary ste...

other Embodiment approach

[0118] Although the present invention has been fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings and in conjunction with the preferred embodiments of the invention, it is to be noted that various changes and modifications will become apparent to those skilled in the art.

[0119] (a) It is employed in the above embodiments that the terminal and the motor wiring are coupled by heat caulking, and the terminal and the switchboard terminal are coupled by insertion. However, the connections between the terminals and these parts can use different connection methods. That is, the switchboard terminals can be connected to the terminals by heat caulking, and the motor wiring can be engaged to the terminals by insertion. In this case, the connector may be provided in the ECU housing.

[0120] (b) In the above embodiments, the motor wiring is provided to the base of the terminal by heat caulking. However, the motor wiring can be set up differently. That is, the motor wiring ...

Abstract

A drive unit (1) used in an electric power steering device has a motor (2) and a control unit (3). A motor wire (23) of the motor (2) has a terminal (31), which is engaged with a power board side terminal (371) of the control unit (3) to electrically couple the motor (2) and the control unit (3). In such structure, the motor (2) and the control unit (3) may be electrically coupled and decoupled, without the use of a special tool. Further, a terminal holder (33) is disposed on an opening (18) of the motor (2) by a first short protrusion (344) and a second short protrusion (362), thereby coupling the terminal (31) to the motor (2).

Description

technical field [0001] The present application generally relates to a drive unit with an integrated motor and a control unit for controlling the motor. Background technique [0002] Conventionally, an electric power steering apparatus having a driving unit that assists a driver's steering operation and having a motor provided in combination and a control unit for the motor is widely used. The electric power steering device disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2003-204654 (JP'654) has an electrical connection between the motor and the control unit by coupling a bus bar extending from the control unit to the motor housing by means of screws. It is realized by winding wire terminals in the body, thus allowing the user to replace damaged parts. [0003] However, the structure of the electric power steering device in JP'654 does not allow the control unit to be separated from the motor without removing the screws used for the electrical connection between the motor and the...
