Ophthalmically compatible contact lenses include lens bodies configured for placement on a cornea of an animal or human eye. The lens bodies are made of a hydrophilic silicon-containing polymeric material. The lens bodies have oxygen permeabilities, water content, surface wettabilities, flexibilities, and/or designs to be worn by a lens wearer even during sleep. The present lenses can be worn on a daily basis, including overnight, or can be worn for several days, such as about thirty days, without requiring removal or cleaning.

A protective article formed of a laminate between at least a layer of a liquid-impermeable, vapor-permeable barrier, and at least a layer of a stretchable or elastomeric, nonwoven fiber web is described. The barrier is reinforced at least on one side by the nonwoven fiber web, which remains elastic after being bonded to the barrier layer. The invention relates to a coated article having enhanced reversible thermal properties. The coated article comprises a substrate having a surface and a coating covering a portion of the surface and comprising a polymeric material and a temperature regulating material dispersed in the polymeric material. The coating is formed with a plurality of regions of discontinuity that are separated from one another and expose a remaining portion of the surface to provide improved flexibility, softness, air permeability, or water vapor transport properties. The coated article may be used in apparel, footwear, medical products, containers and packagings, building materials, appliances, and other products.

A multitouch-capable touchscreen is realized in that a large number of pressure sensors are attached under a flexible surface and thus both the pressure distribution and also the deformation of the surface is measured. Local pressure maxima occur due to the flexibility of the surface material with associated deformation on contact. As several local pressure maxima can exist, it is thus also possible to identify a plurality of contacts simultaneously. It is possible from the strength of pressure and pressure distribution to determine the force that is used for pressing such that this information can also be used in the user interface. A symmetric touch screen switch system in which both the touch side and panelside transparent electrodes are comprised of carbon nanotube thin films is provided. The fabrication of various carbon nanotube enabled components and the assembly of a working prototype touch switch using those components is described. Various embodiments provide for a larger range of resistance and optical transparency for the both the electrodes, higher flexibility due to the excellent mechanical properties of carbon nanotubes. Certain embodiments of the symmetric, CNT-CNT touch switch achieve excellent optical transparency (<3% absorption loss due to CNT films) and a robust touch switching characteristics in an electrical test.

A vaso-occlusive device includes inner, intermediate, and outer elements arranged coaxially. The inner element is a filamentous element, preferably a microcoil. The intermediate element is made of a non-metallic material, preferably an expansile polymer. The outer element is substantially non-expansile and defines at least one gap or opening through which the intermediate element is exposed. In a preferred embodiment, when the intermediate element is expanded, it protrudes through the at least one gap or opening in the outer element and assumes a configuration with an undulating, convexly-curved outer surface defining a chain of arcuate segments, each having a diameter significantly greater than the diameter of the outer element. The expanded configuration of the intermediate element minimizes friction when the device is deployed through a microcatheter, thereby reducing the likelihood of buckling while maintaining excellent flexibility. The result is a device with enhanced pushability and trackability when deployed through a microcatheter.

A woven tube having a warp direction oriented lengthwise to the tube and a fill direction oriented circumferentially of the tube is disclosed. The tube is woven from a plurality of elastic warp yarns arranged parallel to the warp direction and a plurality of elastic fill yarns arranged parallel to the fill direction. A thin film barrier structure and process is disclosed, which is seen as particularly useful for use in devices that require protection from such common environmental species as oxygen and water. A method of making a radially expandable fluid delivery device includes providing a tube of biocompatible fluoropolymer material with a predetermined porosity based on an extrusion and expansion forming process, applying a radial expansion force to the tube expanding the tube to a predetermined diameter dimension, and removing the radial expansion force. The tube is radially inelastic while sufficiently pliable to be collapsible and inflatable from a collapsed configuration to an expanded configuration upon introduction of an inflation force, such that the expanded configuration occurs upon inflation to the predetermined diameter dimension. The fluid delivery device is constructed of a microporous, biocompatible fluoropolymer material having a microstructure that can provide a controlled, uniform, low-velocity fluid distribution through the walls of the fluid delivery device to effectively deliver fluid to the treatment site without damaging tissue proximate the walls of the device.

A stent is formed by encasing or encapsulating metallic rings in an inner polymeric layer and an outer polymeric layer. At least one polymer link connects adjacent metallic rings. The stent is drug loaded with one or more therapeutic agent or drug, for example, to reduce the likelihood of the development of restenosis in the coronary arteries. The invention relates to a high-conductivity aluminum alloy material for a cable and a preparation method thereof. The aluminum alloy material comprises the following components in percentage by weight: 0.25-0.80 percent of iron element, 0.02-0.15 percent of boron element, 0.1-1.5 percent of rare earth element and the balance of aluminum and inevitable impurities. A wooden flooring strip having a wooden flooring strip, comprising a top surface and a base surface opposed to the top surface, the top surface and the base surface defining between them a predetermined thickness wood flooring material. The predetermined thickness wood flooring material includes a top surface zone adjacent the top surface and a base surface zone adjacent the base surface.
