Embodiment Construction

[0023] figure 1 A first embodiment of a wind turbine 1 according to the invention is shown. The wind turbine 1 comprises a tower 50 on which the frame 20 is rotatably mounted. In this embodiment, the frame 20 comprises two separate segments: a front frame 20a and a rear frame 20b. Reference numeral 55 indicates the presence of a yaw mechanism which allows the rear frame 20b to turn around the longitudinal axis of the wind turbine tower. The rear frame 20b and the front frame 20a include inwardly facing annular flanges. Bolts 24 may be used to connect these flanges.

[0024] The rotor hub 10 is rotatably mounted on the front frame 20 a via bearings 15 and 16 . The rotor hub 10 carries a plurality of blades (not shown). A generator 30 is also mounted on the frame 20 . The generator housing 31 is connected by bolts 22 to an annular flange 21b provided on the rear frame 20b. Thus, the generator stator is connected to the frame in a plane substantially perpendicular to the a...

Abstract

Wind turbine comprising a rotor, a generator and a tower, said rotor comprising a rotor hub and one or more rotor blades and said generator comprising a generator stator and a generator rotor, wherein the rotor hub is rotatably mounted on a frame and the generator and tower are arranged on the same of the rotor, and the generator stator is attached to said frame substantially in a plane perpendicular to the rotor's rotational axis, and wherein the generator rotor is rotatably mounted on a part of the generator stator.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a wind turbine. Background technique [0002] Modern wind turbines are commonly used to supply electricity into the grid. Such wind turbines generally include a rotor having a rotor hub and a plurality of blades. The rotor is set to turn as the wind affects the blades. The rotation of the rotor shaft drives the generator rotor directly ("direct drive") or through the use of a gearbox. [0003] The gearbox forms one of the most maintenance intensive components of a wind turbine. Gearboxes need to be inspected regularly, and don't always wear out their expected life; gearboxes or parts of gearboxes sometimes need to be replaced prematurely. This is due to the high loads and fluctuating loads to which the gearbox is subjected. In particular, bending loads that may be transmitted through the rotor shaft to the blades of the gearbox can be destructive. [0004] Direct drive wind turbines known eg from WO 2005 / 103489 do not suf...
