Abstract

The invention discloses a System and method for controlling a variable ignition diesel-gasoline dual fuel powered combustion engine. The variable ignition diesel-gasoline dual fuel powered combustion engine can select spark ignition (SI) or compression ignition (DI) depending on the engine's operating range. The engine may include a cylinder block formed of at least one cylinder each being connected to an air intake manifold supplying air or a gasoline fuel-mixed air and an exhaust manifold exhausting an exhaust gas after combustions; and an ECU controlling the combustion modes. The ECU is configured to judge the engine's operating ranges of an engine depending on the speed and load of the engine, and when the range is the high load range, only the diesel fuel is combusted, and when the range is the low load range, only the gasoline fuel is combusted, and when the range is between the high load range and the low load range, the diesel and gasoline fuels are mixed and combusted.
