Abstract

A polymer composition is disclosed herein. The polymer composition comprises: (A) a propylene / α-olefin interpolymer; (B) an ethylene-based polymer; (C) a block composite comprising: i) a propylene-based crystalline polymers; ii) ethylene / α-olefin polymers; and iii) block copolymers comprising propylene-based crystalline blocks and ethylene / α-olefin blocks. When formed into a film, film layer or flexible container such as a retort pouch, the polymer composition provides an improved heat seal.

Description

Background of the invention [0001] Plastic films find use in a wide range of packaging applications, such as bags, containers, cups, sachets, tubes and trays. Laminates, monolayer films and multilayer films having heat sealable layers are commonly used in "form, fill and seal" (FFS) machines. The FFS machine produces a continuous flow of film packages that can be closed with a film-to-film seal. [0002] A film-to-film heat-seal closure is formed by placing the film between opposing heat-seal jaws, applying pressure to the heat-seal clamps and applying heat in excess of the seal-initiating temperature of the film. Heat seal closures are generally strongest when prepared after the seal has cooled to ambient temperature. To increase throughput, packs are filled with product before the heat seal has had time to cool completely. Therefore, there is a need for a heat-sealed closure to provide sufficient strength very quickly without cooling the package to ambient temperature. I...
