[0021] The systems and methods described herein enable large collections (e.g., at the kilobit scale or larger) of coupled qubits in a modular system that can be modified, tested, characterized, evaluated, and manipulated as smaller systems . To this end, each smaller subsystem can be centralized and isolated from the rest of the system. Other subsystems may be added to or removed from the overall system without affecting the advantageous performance of the subsystems making up the overall system. The systems and methods described here are a framework for the construction, assembly, testing, characterization, evaluation, and operation of modular quantum computers.
[0022] In exemplary embodiments, the systems and methods described herein relate to a modular design for quantum information processing systems in which physical instances of qubits are arranged into a two-level physical organization and structure. The two levels are called "clusters" and "arrays".
