Embodiment Construction

[0027] The parallel interconnect structure of conventional SoCs uses multiple data lines and pins to support data communication between SoC components, which makes partitioning of SoCs difficult. According to various aspects, serial interfaces are described that replace parallel interconnect structures used in conventional FPGA prototyping. The serial interface may include a first AXI bridge at the first FPGA. The first AXI bridge is configured to receive an AXI data signal for a read request or a write request from a first AXI component via a first AXI parallel interface, packetize the AXI data signal into an AXI request packet, and send the AXI data signal to a second AXI component via a serial link. The FPGA transmits the AXI request packet. The serial interface also includes a second AXI bridge at the second FPGA. The second AXI bridge is configured to receive the AXI request packet via the serial link, extract the AXI data signal of the read request or the write request...

Abstract

In terms of serial interfaces for FPGA prototyping, the Advanced Crossbar Interconnect (AXI) bridge fabric supports serial data communication between Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) in a System on Chip (SoC). The AXI bridge fabric includes a parallel interface configured to receive AXI data signals from the AXI components implemented at the first FPGA. A transmit (TX) engine is configured to packetize the AXI data signal into AXI data packets and transmit the AXI data packets to the second FPGA via the serial link. The AXI bridge fabric also includes a receive (RX) engine configured to receive additional AXI data packets from the second FPGA via the serial link and extract AXI data signals from the additional AXI data packets. The parallel interface is also configured to provide additional AXI data signals to the AXI components.

[0004] FPGA prototyping, also known as application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) prototyping or system-on-chip (SoC) prototyping, is used to prototype SoC and ASIC designs on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) for hardware verification and software development . When prototyping with FPGAs, SoCs are often partitioned i...
