Abstract

The present invention discloses a device for starting an engine 11 of a mild hybrid vehicle 5 having low and high voltage starting devices 13 and 14 controlled by an electronic controller 10 . Whenever possible, the electronic controller 10 is operable to start the engine 11 using the high voltage starter 14 as a motor in order to partially discharge the high voltage battery 18 and facilitate increased use of automatic stop and start of the engine 11 .
