Embodiment 1

[0233] Example 1: Comparison of Traditional Perm and Perm Using Bismaleate Binder

[0234] review

[0235] Hair samples were obtained from human subjects and cut into 1 / 2 inch wide hair strands.

[0236] Reducing agent: Ammonium thioglycolate (ATG) was obtained from the permanent wave kit manufactured by Zotos. In addition, 300 mg of dithiothreitol in 10 g of solution was used as reducing agent.

[0237] Binding formulation: use bismaleate binder (2,2'-(ethane-1,2-diylbis(oxyl))bis(ethyl) at a concentration of 300 mg in 10 g of total solution (water) -1-amine) bismaleate).

[0238] method

[0239] Method for using the binding agent to perm hair

[0240] Wash hair with a cleansing shampoo, towel dry, and wrap around a curling iron. Then, ammonium thioglycolate or dithiothreitol is applied to the hair and left on for 10 minutes to 1 hour. Next, rinse hair for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then towel dry.

[0241] The binding formulation is applied to the hair via a needle ...

Embodiment 2

[0245] Example 2: Comparison of Hair Breakage Due to Repeated Application of Traditional Perm and Bonding Formulations

[0246] method

[0247] Obtain 2 hair samples. Two samples were treated with dithiothreitol or ammonium thioglycolate as described in Example 1. One of the hair samples was then treated with the binding formulation, while the other was neutralized with hydrogen peroxide. The procedure is done on the same day as the hair is treated with the binding formulation. The procedure described was done in 3 days using hydrogen peroxide (traditional perm).

[0248] The procedure was repeated 3 times for each sample over a period of 48 hours.

[0249] result

[0250] The second hair sample treated with the binding formulation showed little or no signs of breakage upon visual inspection. However, the first hair samples treated with hydrogen peroxide showed significant breakage.

Embodiment 3

[0251] Example 3: Comparison of the degree of damage to hair (preliminarily relaxed using a Japanese relaxer)

[0252] method

[0253] Two samples of hair were obtained, the first sample was previously straightened using a Japanese relaxer (Yuko) and the second sample was previously straightened using a no lye relaxer (African Pride Miracle Deep Conditioning). Samples were treated with binding formulations as described in Examples 1 and 2.

[0254] Another hair sample was obtained which had been previously straightened using a no-lye relaxer (African Pride Miracle Deep Conditioning). The samples were treated with a traditional hair straightening perm (Zotos).

[0255] result

[0256] Hair samples treated with the binding formulation showed no apparent damage. However, samples treated with conventional perms showed significant damage even during application.

Abstract

Compositions, kits and methods for repairing bonds (eg, disulfide bonds) in hair or on skin are disclosed. The compositions provide improved conditioning benefits to dry hair or moisturized skin. In addition, the composition provides a long-lasting moisturized and smooth feel to the skin or hair without feeling greasy. The composition comprises one or more compounds covalently bonded to at least 2 thiol groups in the hair or on the skin. Use of the binding composition prevents repaired bonds from returning to their free thiol state for at least 1 week or 1 month or longer after a single application of the composition. Additionally, improved methods of hair styling, such as permanent hair waves, hair curling, hair coloring or highlighting, and hair straightening, are provided.
