The computer 12 is also connected to a treatment device 14, such as a linear accelerator, that delivers radiation therapy. A mechanical bed 16 is used as part of the treatment device. The treatment device 14 and the mechanical bed 16 are configured such that under the control of the computer 12, the relative positions of the mechanical bed 16 and the treatment device 14 can be varied laterally, vertically, longitudinally and rotationally, as shown near the bed in the accompanying drawings indicated by the arrow.
