The positioning method comprises the steps of in an offline period, establishing a quadrant picture fingerprint database and a fingerprint-based gridded quadrant database; in an online period, performing energization and driving a circuit, realizing coverage area illumination by an LED signal source, photographing an LED lamp by a mobile terminal, performing matching with the picture fingerprint database for obtaining a coarse position with relatively high precision, and realizing coarse positioning; then performing searching matching with a multi-parameter fingerprint database by the mobile terminal according to the fingerprint information, and determining position information of the mobile terminal in the area, thereby realizing precise positioning. According to the LED visual light indoor positioning method and the LED visual light indoor positioning system, searching matching between the picture and the picture fingerprint database is performed, thereby realizing coarse positioning.
