Abstract

The invention provides a virtual private network (VPN) link detection method and a VPN link detection device. The method is applied to provider edge (PE) equipment in a border gateway protocol (BGP) / multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) VPN. The method comprises the steps of using an IP address corresponding to a VPN configuration port on the PE equipment as an index, to search customer edge (CE) equipment corresponding to the IP address belonging to a same network segment with the above IP address; acquiring a first MAC address corresponding to the CE equipment; judging whether the MAC address that is the same as the first MAC address exists in an ARP entry of the PE equipment; and if yes, determining that the CE equipment and the PE equipment belong to a same VPN. Therefore, an interconnection condition of the CE equipment and the PE equipment in the VPN can be accurately confirmed.
