Embodiment Construction

[0021] This paper describes systems and methods capable of supporting distributed data structures in a distributed data grid. The distributed data grid includes a plurality of buckets, where each bucket is configured to have a capacity to contain elements of the distributed data structure. Additionally, the distributed data grid includes a state owner process configured to maintain state information of the distributed data structure and provide state information of the distributed data structure to client processes.

[0022] Distributed Data Grid

[0023] According to an embodiment, a "data grid cluster" or "data grid" as referred to herein is a system comprising a plurality of computer servers working together to manage information and Related operations (such as calculations). Data grid clusters can be used to manage application objects and data shared across servers. Preferably, a data grid cluster should have low response time, high throughput, predictable scalability, ...

Abstract

A system and method for supporting distributed data structures in a distributed data grid. The grid includes a plurality of buckets, where each bucket is configured to have a capacity to contain elements of the distributed data structure. The distributed data grid includes a state owner process configured to maintain and provide state information of the distributed data structure to client processes. A distributed queue may include a queue of buckets stored across multiple processes, where each bucket is configured to contain elements of the distributed queue. The distributed queue may include a named queue that maintains a local version of state information for the distributed queue, where the local version of the state information includes head and tail pointers to the queue for buckets in the distributed data grid.

Background technique [0004] Modern computing systems, especially those employed by larger organizations and enterprises, continue to grow in size and complexity. In particular, in areas such as Internet applications, the expectation that millions of users will be able to access the application simultaneously has in fact led to exponential growth in the amount of content generated and consumed by users, and the volume of transactions involving that cont...
