Embodiment Construction

[0030] figure 1 A topological diagram of an embodiment of an internal combustion engine 12 in a motor vehicle 10 , which is operated with gas, in particular natural gas or CNG, is shown, including an engine control unit 30 and an engine block 14 . In this preferred embodiment, the internal combustion engine 12 is an externally ignited internal combustion engine.

[0031] Internal combustion engine 12 can be supercharged by means of an exhaust gas turbocharger 18 . Air is supplied to an engine block 14 , preferably here as an example a piston engine with four combustion chambers 26 , via a fresh air arrangement 16 . Air is compressed into the fresh gas system 16 via a compressor 20 of the exhaust gas turbocharger 18 . A throttle, not shown here, is located downstream of the compressor 20 . Each combustion chamber 26 is assigned a gas injector 28 with which gas can be introduced directly into the combustion chamber. The gas is distributed to the gas injectors 28 from a gas t...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method of operating an internal combustion engine (12) comprising at least one combustion chamber (26). The internal combustion engine (12) has at least one intake valve and at least one exhaust valve. The at least one intake valve for the intake process is opened for rotation in a combustion chamber (26) and can be turned during a crank angle. In this method, at least one exhaust valve closed in the post and in the internal combustion engine (26) inflatable gas and blowing in together before compression, gas directly into the internal combustion engine (12) of the at least one combustion chamber (26). Here, before the at least one exhaust valve is closed, the at least one intake valve is opened for the intake process. In addition, the present invention relates to an internal combustion engine (12) having an engine controller (30) that can be operated with gas as fuel, and it operates in accordance with the method of the invention.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method of operating an internal combustion engine having the features stated in the preamble of claim 1 . Furthermore, the invention relates to an internal combustion engine according to the preamble of claim 10 . Background technique [0002] An advantageous fuel for internal combustion engines is gas, especially natural gas with a high methane content, such as compressed natural gas (CNG), because of its high octane number and high purity. There are mainly two different ways of delivering the gas to the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine: In the first type of internal combustion engine, the suction pipe is blown, preferably at several positions of the suction pipe, the gas is blown into the respective fluid ducts of the individual cylinders ( Mixture is formed externally). In the second type of internal combustion engine the gas is injected directly into the combustion chamber (the mixture is formed insi...
