example 1

[0037] Example 1: Application of surface materials for capillary coating: ethanol, fluorocarbon siloxane and 1M nitric acid. Capillary coating procedure: Prepare a coating solution mixture by mixing 1.5 μL of ethanol with 2 mL of silicone reagent and 50 μL of nitric acid. The capillary was first flushed with 1M NaOH at 20 psi for 30 minutes, followed by distilled water at the same pressure for an additional 30 minutes. The capillary was purged with argon for 30 minutes at 20 psi, and then the coating solution was passed through the capillary at room temperature for 2 hours. Next, the capillary was heated at 80°C for 18 hours and at 120°C for an additional 3 hours. After heating, the capillary was brought to room temperature and then flushed with methanol at 50 psi for 15 minutes. Next, the capillary was successfully used in CIEF experiments to generate spectra such as figure 2 and 3 Spectrum shown in .

Abstract

Embodiments described herein are directed to, among other things, compositions and methods for coating surfaces, including, but not limited to, coating a surface with a hydrophobic coating using alkoxysilanes. Coated surfaces are also provided.

Description

[0001] Related applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Application No. 62 / 072,924, filed October 30, 2014, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] Embodiments described herein relate to compositions and methods for coating surfaces including, but not limited to, the use of alkoxysilanes to apply hydrophobic coatings on surfaces. Background technique [0004] Coated capillaries are required in many applications. However, existing coating methods are complex and difficult to maintain performance reproducibility. For example, various silicone reagents are used as the primary coating material for capillaries used in capillary electrophoresis. Due to issues with this primary coating material from suppliers, manufacturers struggle to maintain reproducibility of the performance of coated capillaries. Therefore, it is difficult to maintain the performance of capillaries coated with these raw mat...
