The chess piece locating method is applied to locating chess pieces on a chess board provided with a plane identification object, and includes: acquiring a video stream through a camera, and collecting a video image frame from the video stream; carrying out image processing on the video image frame to recognize the plane identification object; and calculating locations of the chess pieces, which are on the chess board, relative to the identification object according to the plane identification object and a pre-acquiredintrinsic matrix of the camera, and thus locating the chess pieces. In addition, on the basis of the same technical idea, the invention also discloses a machine vision-based chess piece locating system, a storage medium and a robot. According to the method, special circuit realization of the chess board is not needed, data communication does not need to be carried out between the chess board andthe robot, and arrangement is more facilitated.
