Abstract

A cosmetic instrument sets an appropriate electrical reference value corresponding to a user's skin color, can accurately detect skin abnormalities such as patches regardless of the skin color. The cosmetic instrument includes a skin irritation body including an irritation surface that is in contact with a skin surface to provide stimulation, a skin irritation source that imparts physical cosmetic irritation to the skin irritation body, and a skin abnormality detecting section that optically detects an abnormality on the skin surface. The skin abnormality detecting section includes a light-emitting unit that emits the detection light to a measured part on the skin surface, and a light-receiving unit that receives the detection light reflected by the skin surface and outputs an electricaloutput value corresponding to the amount of received light. The state of the skin surface can be determined by comparing the electrical output value of the light-receiving unit with a predetermined electrical reference value.
