Embodiment Construction

[0024] The following will clearly and completely describe the technical solutions in the embodiments of the present invention with reference to the accompanying drawings in the embodiments of the present invention. Obviously, the described embodiments are only some, not all, embodiments of the present invention. Based on the embodiments of the present invention, all other embodiments obtained by persons of ordinary skill in the art without creative efforts fall within the protection scope of the present invention.

[0025] The planar optical waveguide process adopts the method of growing different materials on the substrate layer by layer and etching them into shapes to make optical waveguides. The optical waveguide produced by this process can be made into various sizes in the width direction, but the height direction is generally the same, and the size change in the width direction directly affects the change in the cross-sectional size.

Abstract

An embodiment of the invention provides a coupler and an optical module, wherein the coupler and the optical module relate to the field of optical communication. The coupler provided by the embodimentof the invention comprises a substrate; a core layer on the surface of the substrate; wherein the core layer comprises a transmission core and at least two coupling cores; the width of the coupling core increases from one end to the other end and then gradually reduces, the width of the transmission core increases from one end to the other end, and the other end of each of at least two coupling cores surrounds one end of the transmission core, and one end of each of at least two coupling cores does not surround the transmission core; and a wrapping layer which warps the core layer and has refractive index that is lower than that of the core layer. One end of the coupling core of the core layer receives light of a large speckle. One end of each of at least two coupling cores is overlappedwith one end of the other coupling core, thereby improving matching capability of the coupler with the large speckle. In the gradual changing process of the coupling core, refractive index change occurs so that the light of the coupling core can leave the coupling core. The light which leaves the coupling core enters the transmission core. The optical module with the coupler can match larger speckle in optical coupling and furthermore reduces optical loss.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to the field of optical communication, in particular to a coupler and an optical module. Background technique [0002] Optical communication uses light as the carrier of information transmission, and the loss of light during transmission directly affects the transmission distance and the quality of received information. [0003] The light-transmitting media have different cross-sectional sizes, and different cross-sectional sizes have different mold spots, and the light transmission between different mold spots will cause great optical loss. Specifically, the optical waveguides manufactured by the planar optical waveguide process have different cross-sectional dimensions, including different heights and / or different widths of the optical waveguides. In order to reduce the loss of light transmitted in optical waveguides of different sizes, it is necessary to use a coupler to connect the optical waveguides of different sizes. [0...
