example 1 1

[0391] Example 1. A method comprising: receiving, by a first computing node implemented in circuitry of a network device, a first instance of a distributed operating system for and in an application provided by the distributed operating system updated state information for at least one of the applications executing in the space; updating, by the first computing node of the network device, a local data structure of the first computing node of the network device to include the updated state information, the local data structure storing a plurality of objects , each object defines a portion of state information for at least one of a distributed operating system and an application; and the updated local data structure is compared by a first computing node of the network device with a first circuit-implemented by the network device The remote data structures of the second instance of the distributed operating system executed by the two nodes are synchronized.

example 2

[0392] Example 2. The method of example 1, further comprising building a local data structure.

example 3

[0393] Example 3. The method of example 1, wherein the local data structure comprises a local tree data structure, wherein each tree node of the local tree data structure comprises a leaf accessible by a corresponding one of the tree nodes of the local tree data structure A local digest of the content stored by the tree nodes, wherein the remote data structure comprises a remote tree data structure, and wherein each tree node of the remote tree data structure comprises a leaf tree accessible by a corresponding one of the tree nodes of the remote tree data structure A remote digest of what the node stores.

Abstract

The invention relates to a network method, network apparatus, and a non-transient computer readable storage medium. In general, techniques are described for organizing execution of distributed operating systems for network devices. The network apparatus includes a first hardware node and a second hardware node, wherein the first hardware node can execute a first entity of the distributed operatingsystem and maintain a first data structure storing a plurality of objects defining a part of status information; a second hardware node can execute a second entity of the distributed operating systemand maintain a second data sturcture of a synchornous version of the objects. The first hardware node can further receive updated status information, so that by updating the first data structure, theupdated status information is included, and the updated first data structure and second data structure are synchronized. The second hardware node can synchronize the second data structure with the updated first data structure.

Description

[0001] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 437,369, filed December 21, 2016, and U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 479,804, filed March 31, 2017, the entire contents of which are adopted Incorporated by reference. technical field [0002] The present disclosure relates to network devices, and more particularly, to operating systems for network devices. Background technique [0003] An operating system for a network device such as a router is used to provide an execution environment in which various applications such as network protocols, maintenance interfaces, virtualization applications, and the like can execute. One function of a router's operating system is to establish a means by which state information can be propagated to the various components (or, in other words, the router's compute nodes) to allow the router to properly route network traffic within the network. [0004] For example, a router may maintain state information ...
