Abstract

By simultaneously performing acquisition of transmission data and measurement of annihilation radiation pairs using a single detector ring, both reduction of manufacturing cost of the PET apparatus and reduction of the burden on the subject can be achieved. That is, transmission data representing the distribution of absorption characteristics of annihilation radiation in the subject is calculated from data on annihilation radiation pairs generated near the surface of the subject. According to the present invention, since transmission data can be obtained by detecting radiopharmaceuticals originating from the subject, it is not necessary to perform imaging exclusively for transmission data.
