Systems and methods for improving the acceleration performance of electric vehicles including propulsion motors are disclosed. An exemplary system may include an inverter configured to drive an electric motor; the inverter may include at least one power electronic device; the system may further include a torque capability controller; the torque capability controller may be configured to receive information indicating a selection between a first mode and a second mode; the second mode may correspond to a higher torque output by the motor than the first mode; the torque capability controller may be further configured to change the switching frequency Applied to at least one power electronic device; when the received information indicates that the second mode is selected, the value of the switching frequency is lower than when the received information indicates that the first mode is selected.
