Embodiment Construction

[0029] exist figure 1A side cross-sectional view of a container assembly 10 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure is shown in . The container assembly 10 includes a container 16 having a bottom wall 12 and a container side wall 4 extending from the periphery of the bottom wall 12 to surround the first chamber 1 . It will be appreciated that if the container 16 is cylindrical, the side wall 4 may comprise a single circular wall panel. However, a container with a polygonal cross-section, such as a rectangle or a hexagon, may have a side wall 4 made up of a plurality of planar panels. In either case, the side wall 4 surrounds the first or main chamber 1 and forms an aperture 11 through which product can be added to or dispensed from the first chamber 1 . exist figure 1 In an embodiment of the invention, the side wall 4 narrows as it extends towards the hole 11 to form a neck.

Abstract

The present disclosure is directed to a container assembly (10) including a container (16) sealed by a closure (2). The container has a main chamber (1) in which a highly nutritive liquid food productcan be filled and stored aseptically or through retort processing. The closure includes a separate chamber (7) in which a supplement sensitive to thermal processing of the liquid food product can befilled and stored. The container assembly permits the closure filled with the supplement to be attached to the container after severe thermal processing conditions have subsided, and permits the supplement to be conveniently and hygienically mixed with the liquid food product immediately prior to use.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to the construction of containers, and more particularly to the construction of closures for containers. Background technique [0002] Infants and individuals who are recovering with special dietary needs or who are predisposed to illness may require highly nutritious liquid food products and food supplement products. Due to their high nutritional content, some of these food products provide preferential growth sites for fungi, bacteria and other microorganisms that may infect or sicken the intended recipient. Therefore, to minimize the risk of disease and infection, these highly nutritious food products are preferably prepared, maintained and transported very hygienically and under conditions designed to inhibit the growth of microorganisms. For example, the product and the storage container in which the product is kept may be sterilized, and the product packaged into the storage container under aseptic condit...
