Abstract

A method for diagnosing an open-phase fault state comprises the following steps that a q-axis motor current, a motor speed, a q-axis motor current demand, and a demand phase voltage from a controllerin a motor are determined, and a signal indicative of the presence of an open-phase fault state of the motor is output if the following conditions are satisfied, wherein the signals indicate that (1)an amplitude of the q-axis current demand is higher than a threshold value; (2) the q-axis motor current is lower than a first predefined fraction of the required q-axis motor current; (3) a second predefined fraction in which the required phase voltage is greater than the saturation phase voltage value of the motor circuit; and (4) the motor rotating speed is lower than the threshold rotating speed.
