Embodiment Construction

[0047] As described herein, the illustrative embodiments provide surgical closure systems, devices, and methods for (i) aligning tissue surrounding a perforation in a body cavity, thereby sealing the aperture in the body cavity, (ii) aligning the tissue while aligning the tissue within the aperture. Form a packing at the site, and (iii) maintain tissue alignment around the perforation until the perforation is sealed. In some embodiments, the devices, systems, and methods are used to seal surgical perforations in body lumens, such as the gastrointestinal tract, heart, abdominal cavity, esophagus, vagina, rectum, trachea, bronchi, and blood vessels, including for example, but not limited to ) femoral vein, jugular vein, vena cava, femoral artery, subclavian artery, ascending aorta, accessory artery and brachial artery.

Abstract

The disclosed technology provides a device (10) for sealing an aperture in a tissue of a body lumen. The device includes a flexible support member (14) having a base (19) configured to engage and / or hold a sealable member (12) of the device against an interior surface of the tissue when the device is in the sealing position. The device also includes a locator (16) coupled to the support member and configured to engage with a wall of the body lumen to secure the device thereto.

Description

technical field [0001] The present application relates generally to closure systems, devices, and related methods for use in surgery. [0002] Cross References to Related Applications [0003] This application claims priority and benefit to U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 786,789, filed December 31, 2018, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. Background technique [0004] During surgical or endoscopic procedures on a body cavity (eg, a blood vessel), a hole is formed in the tissue of the cavity (eg, from an arteriotomy). After surgery, the pores must be closed to allow the cavity to heal. A relatively new type of closure device has a flexible disc that is delivered into a body cavity to seal the pore. The discs maintain tissue apposition until the cavity heals, allowing the wound to heal from within the cavity. The puck is operable with a rigid core that prevents the puck from falling out of the sealing position. [0005] In certain patient pop...
