Embodiment Construction

[0074] The goal of the disclosed design is to create a clot retrieval catheter with a large distally facing opening and the ability to travel through tortuous regions of the vasculature to reach a customized height of the occluding clot Flexible body segments, capable of providing localized flow restriction / blocking of both. Flow restriction and large tip design provide significantly greater suction efficiency. Such advantages are also particularly beneficial in the context of stroke intervention where the vessels in the neurovascular bed are particularly small and tortuous, and thus the tailored axial and bending stiffness profiles can inhibit kinking and bonding. The catheter is also compatible with relatively low profile access sheaths and external catheters so that puncture wounds in the patient's groin (in the case of femoral access) can be easily and reliably closed. The catheter may also feature an inner and / or outer low friction lining, and an outer polymeric sheath o...

Abstract

The invention is entitled aspirating clot retrieval catheter with expandable mouth. The invention discloses a system that has an outer catheter and an inner aspirating clot retrieval catheter having an expansile distal tip for flow restriction, improved aspiration efficiency, and a large mouth into which a clot or other obstructions can be retrieved. The clot retrieval catheter can have a support tube proximal of the tip. The expansile tip can be a strut framework, and a flexible, low-modulus cover is disposed around at least a portion of the tip strut framework and the proximal support tube. The distal end of the tip can be encapsulated by a low-friction elastomeric lip for atraumatic contact with the walls of a blood vessel. The tip has a collapsed delivery configuration and expands radially into a deployed configuration. The tip strut framework, support tube, and cover can all have characteristics which enhance the deliverability of the clot retrieval catheter to the target.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to devices and methods for removing acute blockages from blood vessels during endovascular medical treatment. More specifically, the present invention relates to suction retrieval catheters. Background technique [0002] Clot retrieval catheters and device. Accessing distant regions, such as neurovascular beds, is challenging using conventional techniques because the target vessel is small in diameter, distant from the insertion site, and highly tortuous. [0003] The clot itself can complicate the procedure by adopting a variety of complex shapes and consistencies, ranging from simple tubular structures that take on the shape of blood vessels to long chain-like arrangements that can span multiple vessels simultaneously. The age of a clot can also affect its compliance, with older clots tending to be less compressible than fresh clots. Fibrin-rich clots also present challenges with their viscous properties, w...
