Embodiment Construction

[0019] An occupancy detection system for occupancy detection is disclosed herein, featuring a wireless configurable array for a vehicle. The occupancy detection system includes a master controller for interfacing to a sensing system within a vehicle. The sensing system consists of a series of reader modules (receivers) and transponder modules. The reader module interfaces with a near field communication (NFC) microcontroller and a microchip integrated with a local interconnect network (LIN) transponder to deliver power both to the transponder module and from the transponder The register module receives occupancy and snap latch sensing information. Reader locations can be customized according to the vehicle's manufacturing requirements. A series of NFC transponders connect to snap latches and occupancy sensors inside the vehicle. Sensor power is supplied wirelessly from the reader to the sensor using a wireless configurable array.

Abstract

A wireless sensor array for occupancy detection in a passenger vehicle is provided. An occupancy detection system includes a master controller for a series of coupled receivers including a reader module and a transponder module in close contact with each other. The reader module is capable of both wirelessly transmitting power to and receiving signals from the transponder module, where the transponder module transmits signals based on information received from the snap sensor, the occupancy sensor, or both. A transponder module disposed in each seat of the vehicle will obtain a locking / unlocking signal from the snap and send this information back to the main controller through the reader module. The master controller will interface with the vehicle to provide a user interface notification.

Description

technical field [0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to vehicle sensing technologies, and more particularly, to technologies for wireless occupancy sensing in passenger vehicles. Background technique [0002] Automakers are adding many features to vehicles for comfort and entertainment. The number of interfaces supporting these features has thus increased. Seat belts have been a standard feature in vehicles for decades. [0003] Some passenger vehicles allow the seat to be removed from the seat frame. A vehicle bus standard called Controller Area Network (CAN) is used for communication between devices in a vehicle. Incorporating seat belt functionality into a seat that can be removed using a CAN interface can be challenging. [0004] With regard to these and other considerations, the present improvements may be useful. Contents of the invention [0005] This Summary is provided to introduce a selection of concepts in a simplified form that are further d...
