Problems solved by technology
This situation presents HVAC designers with a dilemma as they must choose: either 1) meet code requirements for heating and cooling loads with AHRI rated equipment, but not adequately meet airflow requirements according to ACCA standards and ASHRAE 62.1 and ASHRAE 62.2 requirements; or 2) meeting airflow requirements and oversizing equipment (i.e., installing equipment rated for high performance requirements), which creates short cycling (or constant opening and closing of equipment)
This short cycling may: 1) reduce the life expectancy of the equipment, 2) increase the humidity level within the structure (depressing the latent heat load capacity within the volume of the living space), which may result in lower cooling temperatures required to keep occupants comfortable Increased energy consumption, and 3) creating an environment that increases the probability of mold growth

[0072] The recommended required air flow is much higher than the calculated air flow for heating and cooling loads. Based on this design and a compact building envelope that limits penetration, ventilation will be significantly reduced.

An improved HVAC system and a method of configuring an HVAC system are described herein for cost-effective installation and energy-efficient operation of a multi-unit residential building. In one exemplary embodiment, based on a maximum heating and cooling load and a minimum required air flow requirement for a defined living space, the mechanical house is sized to simultaneously accommodate a majority of the HVAC equipment, however, it is also advantageous to operate as an air mixing chamber for a wall-mounted temperature and humidity conditioning unit and blower assembly of the HVAC system. This advantage allows for the elimination of one or more mechanical plenums for the air mixing space and the flexibility of positioning HVAC components in the provided space.
Description
[0001] priority claim [0002] This application claims priority to and the benefit of US Provisional Application Serial No. 62 / 886,266, filed August 13, 2019, of the same title, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present inventive concept generally relates to HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) systems for residential and commercial environments. Background technique [0004] While various sources of heating or cooling air exist, mainstream systems use refrigeration cycles to produce forced air heating or cooling. This typically requires a component placed outside the conditioned space and thus exposed to the outdoor atmosphere (eg, condenser coil, fan, and compressor) and an evaporator coil, fan that delivers conditioned air to the space and another part of the metering device. [0005] Typical heat pump systems and other equipment, including gas furnaces, require a certain amount of air flow through the...
